Chocolate? What chocolate? Instead of sleeping in, bingeing on Easter eggs and streaming shows, Belloo Creative is spending the long weekend in one of our favourite spaces - a rehearsal room!

Co-Artistic Directors, Caroline Dunphy and Katherine Lyall-Watson, recently made two trips to Sydney for SAND, our collaboration with the Taikoz performance ensemble. And now Taikoz are coming to Brisbane to work with Belloo Creative's actors and team over the Easter long weekend as we prepare this dynamic new work for Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).

SAND

SAND is an ode to the natural world, exploring the elemental forces of nature and celebrating the beauty of impermanence.SAND is an original and highly engaging performance fusing sound, story and physicality and will premiere at QPAC later this year.

SAND is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Federal Government through the RISE Fund.

A Night at the Pink Poodle

We are also brewing another exciting new work: the pop opera A Night at the Pink Poodle. Award-winning Brisbane librettist and playwright Shaun Charles has been adapting Matthew Condon's novel A Night at the Pink Poodle into a pop opera. To bring the libretto to life, Shaun and Belloo Creative are collaborating with prominent Australian composer and sound designer Peter Farnan (of Boom Crash Opera fame), who worked alongside Deborah Conway, Willy Zygier and Richard Pleasance to compose original music for three test scenes for the work.

Shaun Charles, Peter Farnan, Caroline and Katherine connected in Sydney for a dramaturgical development of the work in February and are happy to say that the finished libretto is now tantalisingly close. (Special thanks to Fraser Corfield and ATYP for the rehearsal space.)
